TOPEKA (KSNT) – First responders were at the scene of a deadly crash on Highway 24 in north Topeka Friday afternoon that caused the deaths of two local women.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reports the crash occurred just after 2 p.m. on Friday, May 30 in the westbound lanes of Highway 24 close to where it intersects with Northwest Rochester Road. A Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling east on the highway when it went off the roadway to the right before overcorrecting to the left.
The Hyundai then crossed through the median and into the westbound lanes of traffic where it collided head-on with a Kia Forte.
Topeka bridge to shut down for months
The KHP initially reported the driver of the Hyundai, 22-year-old Anya J. Turner of Topeka, died in the crash. The driver of the Kia, 32-year-old Andria N. Starr of Topeka, was hospitalized with serious injuries on Friday but later died.
