TOPEKA (KSNT) – Local ghost hunters are invited to take part in an upcoming spooky tour at Gage Park later this week.
Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) is holding a ghost hunt at the Helen Hocker Theater in Gage Park. The tour runs from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 13 at 700 Southwest Zoo Parkway and costs $22 per person.
Helen Hocker Theater, built in 1930, was originally known as the Gage Park Bath House, according to SCP+R. It is now one of the oldest buildings still standing in the park and may be home to some paranormal activity.
Members of Ghost Tours of Kansas will take the lead with this ghost hunt. They will be equipped with cameras and EMF readers to record anything unusual.
“First time event so I’m not sure what to expect, and I don’t know if the ghosts know what to expect,” said Devin Cooper with SCP+R. “So it will be an interesting experience for everyone, living or deceased.”

People who want to take part in the tour need to be 13 or older and pre-register. You can learn more about the ghost hunt and what to expect by heading to the SCP+R’s website.
If the ghost hunt isn’t your style, you can also try Gage Park After Dark. This walking tour includes stories of the Civil War, Menninger East Sanatorium and more. Learn more about this event by clicking here.
