TOPEKA (KSNT) — The Topeka Police Department (TPD) arrested a man in connection to the city’s eighth homicide this year.
Lieutenant Donna Eubanks with the TPD said in a press release Thursday, June 12 officers transported Pearson Carter III, 19, of Topeka, to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He was arrested for the following crimes:
- Murder in the 2nd degree, intentional.
- Aggravated battery.
- Criminal carry of a weapon.
- Unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits.
Officers were called to the 700 block of Southwest Western before 8 p.m. on June 3 after reports of gunshots in the nearby area. Police found Ian A. Mwaniki, 29, of Topeka at the scene who was later declared dead by medical personnel.
