TOPEKA (KSNT) – Police in Topeka are set to host a car stop training course for local high school students and their parents this summer.
City of Topeka spokesman Dan Garrett said in a press release that officers with the Topeka Police Department (TPD) will be teaching people what they should do if they get pulled over by law enforcement. The aim of this learning opportunity is to show what a car stop might look like and help attendees figure out how to act during a potentially stressful experience like getting pulled over by police.
Garrett said there will be two sessions available in the coming days for students and parents. These include the following:
- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at Crestview Community Center located at 4801 Southwest Shunga Drive.
- 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the Law Enforcement Center at 320 South Kansas Avenue.
What’s on the menu at Topeka’s first Whataburger and when will it open?
People can sign up by contacting TPD Sergeant Mike Burns at 785-368-2401 or by sending an email to mdburns@topeka.org.
