What We’re Tracking
- Heat holds strong
- Staying humid all weekend
- Wind Advisory
After a humid and mild night last night with lows in the upper 70s to low 80s, today will be almost a repeat of yesterday. Summertime heat made itself known on the first day of summer with heat index values reaching up to 106°, another hot day is ahead. Most areas will reach the mid to upper 90s.
A Heat Advisory has been extended into Sunday evening, with afternoon heat indices expected to climb back into the low 100s to as high as 107° the next two days. This marks the hottest stretch of the season so far, so be sure to stay hydrated and avoid extended time outdoors during peak heating hours.
Dew points will climb into the low 70s this weekend, making for especially humid and uncomfortable conditions. Overnight lows will offer little relief, holding in the mid-70s.
In addition, a Wind Advisory is in effect for east-central Kansas from 10 AM to 8 PM Saturday. Southerly winds will increase throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 30 to 40 mph. This persistent breeze will continue the stream of warm, moist air, keeping the heat and humidity in place through this weekend and into early next week.
Rain chances remain slim over the next few days. Our next opportunity for showers and storms arrives early to midweek next week, but it’s unlikely to bring significant cooling.
