TOPEKA (KSNT) – Trick or treating in the summer?
That’s what happened Thursday in the NOTO Arts District. Kids and families took to the streets for “Summerween,” a spooky celebration with a sweet twist.
NOTO was filled with mini monsters, superheroes and princesses, as kids dressed up in costume going door to door trick or treating. The event, a playful take on Halloween, featured local businesses passing out candy, crafts, and other treats.
One big name joined the fun. Candy giant, Mars, brought out its Halloween team to make the day even sweeter.

“We make all of the fun size and mini candy that goes into your trick-or-treaters’ bags every year,” MARS Site Director, Brian Pardo, said. “So, with Summerween catching on and being a big hit, we thought, what better thing to do than to bring Summerween to Topeka, which is Halloween headquarters.”
The “Summerween” event is part of a growing trend to bring festive fun to the summer.
