TOPEKA (KSNT) – Experts say there are a few things people need to keep in mind before they hit the road for Independence Day celebrations this summer.
Taking care of your vehicle may sound tedious or time-consuming, but it is a good idea to check things like your tire pressure before a road trip. Tires should also be rotated every 6,000 miles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that tire failures cause 11,000 accidents on the road every year.
“Tires are one of those things that people don’t really pay attention to just because they’re used to it being there,” said Matt Wilson, co-owner of Wilson Tire. “Sometimes it’s hard to get a good visual inspection of the tires without actually taking the intention to do so.”
The American Automobile Association predicts more than 72 million people will drive at least 50 miles for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
