TOPEKA (KSNT) – Locals celebrated the holiday a day early at Santa Fe Park, with a DJ, shaved ice stand, fireworks and even a marching band.
The event started over 10 years ago when a family decided to share their firework show with the whole neighborhood.
“I noticed that we are drawing a crowd, and I thought, okay, well, maybe I can make this bigger,” Event Director, Mark Lopez said. “This is something that, you know, everybody can just be happy, you know, like where you can bring your family and just get a good get a good meal and, you know, snow cones and just sit back and watch a good show.”
Kansas phones bombarded with scam texts
Lopez says he wants to continue the celebration for years to come, giving the neighborhood a fun event to look forward to.
