TOPEKA (KSNT) – Firefighters in Topeka doused a burning garage on Tuesday that may have been caused by arson.
Dan Garrett with the City of Topeka said the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) was called around 3 p.m. on July 8 to a home in the 1300 block of Northeast Winfield Avenue on reports of a garage on fire. Fire crews located a detached garage at the scene which was engulfed in flames.

Garrett said the fire spread to a nearby home, causing minor damage to it. One person inside the home at the time of the fire was able to get out before firefighters arrived at the scene. The TFD’s investigation unit reports the cause of the fire is believed to be arson.
