TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Police Department’s (TPD) investigation commander gave an update on the city’s ninth homicide of the year on Wednesday.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, officers responded to the 3200 block of Randolph for reports of a shooting.
The caller reported being inside a residence and hearing numerous gunshots. Neighboring houses provided the same information. The TPD said residences on the west side of the street were hit by gunfire, according to information provided in Wednesday’s press conference.
Police identified the victim has been identified as Destiny Voss, 28, of Topeka. This marks the ninth homicide investigation of 2025.
Shortly after arriving at the scene of the shooting, TPD responded to a local hospital for reports of a person suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The TPD reported the victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. According to a press release from TPD, Voss died in the hospital from his injuries.

The TPD said it hasn’t made any arrests at this time and that investigators are working the leads that they have now. The TPD is asking the public for help.
