JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – State troopers busted a driver traveling at 100 mph through a highway work zone near Junction City Wednesday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C reported on social media that around 7:30 a.m. on July 16 a state trooper monitoring traffic on I-70 near Junction City spotted a driver in a KIA moving at 100 mph in a 60 mph zone. The speeding violation also occurred in an ongoing road construction zone.
Law enforcement issued a ticket to the driver for exceeding the maximum speed limits and driving on the left while in a no-passing zone. The driver’s ticket ended up at $948 for the traffic violations and docket fee.

The KHP said the driver ignored signs warning of traffic narrowing down to one lane due to the work zone. State troopers said this could have caused a crash or harm to workers in the area.
“But sometimes drivers ignore the signs. They wait until the last minute and try to speed around several cars on the left, right before the lane narrows. That’s not just dangerous. It’s exactly what those warning signs are trying to prevent.
This morning, that’s what happened. A driver flew through the area at 100 miles per hour in a 60 zone. They were also passing cars on the left in a no-passing area, just before everything funneled into one lane.”
