Update 12:30 p.m.: Evergy reports that nearly all customers in Topeka have had their power restored. The total number of customers without power is now just over 5,842, with 396 active outages.
TOPEKA (KSNT) – After a night of storms in eastern Kansas and western Missouri, Evergy is working to restore power to tens of thousands of customers.
Evergy shares that it has 570 active outages in the affected area. Over 22,000 people are without power as of 6 a.m. on Thursday. In Topeka, the company reports it has 11 outages affecting over 200 customers. The company’s outages spread as far southwest as Wichita.
At 8 a.m., Evergy gave a storm update. According to the company, over 52,000 customers lost power overnight, with Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City metro areas taking the most damage. Evergy reports that it has restored power to more than half of the customers who were impacted.

Evergy has stated that restoration times are currently unavailable due to the storm’s activity. 27 News will monitor the situation and update this article as more information becomes available.
Evergy is warning that if you see a downed power line, stay at least 30 feet away from it. The company says to assume all down power lines are energized.
