KANSAS (KSNT) – Working for you, 27 News is looking into mortgage delinquency rates in the Sunflower State.
Kansas ended 2024 with mortgage delinquencies slightly below the 0.6% national average at 0.5%. Kansas has followed a general downward trend in mortgage delinquencies ever since 2009, following the 2008 housing market crash.
Kansas ranked between 31st and 44th in the nation for delinquency, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Kansas was tied with 13 other states at 0.5%. Louisiana had the highest delinquency rate in the nation at 1.4%.

Kansas had a total of 221,813 single-family loans active as of March 2025, according to 2025 data from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac shared by the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). There were 198 loans currently in a forbearance plan to temporarily ease or pause loan payments.

Of those loans, 1,075 were marked as seriously delinquent, with 4.8% of those being delinquent for one year or more. From Oct. 1, 2008, to March 31, 2025, there were 12,985 loan modifications made to help borrowers avoid foreclosure, according to the FHFA.
