What We’re Tracking
- Some strong storms tonight
- Extreme and dangerous heat
- No cool off in sight
Highs today reached the mid to upper 90s, some reached 100, with dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s, giving us heat indices close to 110 degrees. Others were cooler due to on and off showers and prolonged periods of cloud cover. Shower chances for most of us increase heading into the overnight period, with the greater chance coming early Monday morning. Some storms could be strong with the primary hazard being wind gusts as high as 50 to 60 mph.
The heat for all will continue into the start of the new week. There will be no “cool off”, but rather not as hot temperatures in areas affected by rain and cloud cover Monday. Most of the viewing area is under an Excessive Heat Warning through Thursday next week. The combination of heat and humidity during the early part of this week makes heat indices 105+ degrees possible. Remember to limit time outdoors, find shade if possible, and hydrated.
The new week will start off a little unsettled with scattered showers and storms on Monday, but we’re all expected to dry out as we head into Tuesday. Once the dry time begins, temperatures begin to soar into the lower 100s. Past midweek, dewpoints drop into the lower 60s making it more of a dry heat and not so much of a humid heat.
