KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Police are investigating after a Wyandotte County deputy was killed in a shooting on Saturday afternoon.
The shooting took place near S. 30th St. & Shawnee Drive in Kansas City, Kansas. The deputy was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to KCKPD.
The deputy was on S. 30th St., standing by as someone moved out of a house. The deputy was there for safety reasons. There was another person inside the house who came out and had a confrontation with the person that was moving, and shot the deputy.
KCKPD arrived to the scene and the suspect shot at the responding officers, then barricaded themselves inside the home, leading to a standoff.
They were able to negotiate and get the suspect out of the home around 5 p.m.
The suspect was shot at some point, but they were able to walk out of the home after barricading themselves for around two hours.
