TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kaylee’s Dad is Mad is a non-profit that educates and raises awareness on the dangers of fentanyl. The organization has put up its sixth billboard in the sunflower state with National Fentanyl Prevention Awareness Day coming up on August 21.
After losing their daughter in 2023 to a fentanyl overdose, Kaylee’s Dad is Mad was made to share their daughter’s voice. Now, with just over two weeks until National Fentanyl Prevention Awareness Day, the non-profit is planning a candlelight vigil underneath their billboard right off the highway in north Topeka.
“We’re just all going to gather there and have a time of remembrance for anyone in the community or surrounding areas that have lost someone to drug overdose and want to be a part of that,” Kaylee’s Dad is Mad Founder Amber Salle-Burger said. “We’ll share stories, memories of our loved ones, just a time of gathering to let people know that you’re not alone.”
The group’s impact can be seen in more places than just billboards. They have several “save a life” stations around Topeka stocked with goods to prevent an opioid overdose. If you know someone who is struggling with fentanyl, or any drug for that matter, Salle-Burger says one of the best things you can do is to be a safe person for them to talk to.
